When Should The CPQ Be Administered As A Retention Tool?

Often it is most convenient to assess freshmen during orientation or shortly after matriculation. Unfortunately, questionnaires designed to be administered at this time cannot measure the effects of the students’ interactions with the collegiate academic and social environments.

Because these interactions often determine persistence and are the focus of interventions, we strongly advise that the CPQ not be administered until at least six weeks after matriculation. Likewise, it is recommended that transfers not be assessed until they have been attending the current institution for at least six weeks.
